50 Miles in 50 Days – sponsor form

We are planning to raise £50,000 before our 50th Anniversary in 2024 to extend our gym with new pits.

And we are going to start our campaign with a Festival of Gymnastics over the weekend of 11-12 September.

We are challenging our gymnasts to walk 50 miles in 50 days between 12 September 2021 and the 31 October 2021.

Anyone raising more than £50 will be invited to a free Sunday training session.

For our youngest gymnasts, we will be encouraging them to walk five miles in those 50 days.

  • Here is a link to download our sponsor form for the gymnasts to use.

You will be invited to track their walks online via Strava – in our club area – and there will be weekly updates and prizes along the way.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Festival of Gymnastics – time to shine

We’re getting together – at long last – with our Festival of Gymnastics on the weekend of 11-12 September.

The festival is an opportunity to see what the girls have been working on over the last year – we can’t wait for you to see them.

Everyone has received an email with details of how to attend and once we know numbers everyone will be given a time slot.

We will be accepting donations of teddies for the teddy bear tombola, leotards for the leotard stall and raffle prizes will be on offer along with refreshments.

We can’t accept homemade goodies this year due to Covid regulations but any shop-bought treats would be gratefully accepted.

We’re using the festival to launch our appeal to raise £50,000 for the next phase of the club’s development in helping our gymnasts to improve their skills.

The appeal, 50k for 50 Years, will help us to finance new pits at our unit at Gwernaffield.

The use of giant pits – which are filled with foam blocks – allow gymnasts to stay safe while learning new moves.

As part of the appeal, we’re launching our first sponsorship event, 50 Miles in 50 Days, from 12 September to 31 October and a sponsorship form will be emailed to families and also available to download from our website.

For our youngest gymnasts, we will be encouraging them to walk five miles in those 50 days.

You will be invited to track their walks online via Strava – in our club area – and there will be weekly updates and prizes along the way.

We look forward to seeing you all next weekend.

Tributes to Mr Stan Buckley

It’s with great sadness that we have to share the news of the passing of Mr Stan Buckley who will be forever remembered by our club.

He has been key to the club’s success and has helped to train countless gymnasts and coaches since 1979, only stepping down as coaching director last year.

Club board director Ceri Sass, a former club gymnast and head coach, said Mr Buckley’s “passion for gymnastics and Buckley Girls’ Gymnastics Club was second to none”.

“People always asked if the club was named after him – it easily could have been,” she said.

“He was the driving force behind the club for more than 40 years.”

Ceri said: “‘Mr B’ – we will endeavour to keep your passion burning in the gym and we will strive to make you proud.

“My coach, my mentor and my friend for over 30 years – thank you.”

We wish to pass on our sincere condolences to Diane and family.

Mr Buckley will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

In its own tribute, Welsh Gymnastics said: “Stan made an impression on everyone he met and was an integral part of our gymnastics community. He will be deeply missed.”
