Success at the Adult British Championships 2023

Our adult gymnasts had a great weekend at the Adult British Championships.

Milly, Eleri, Hannah, Ceri, Becca and Bethan have been training in our Adult gym classes.

The team came 7th out of 24 teams with Ceri taking a gold all round medal in the Novice over 30 category and Hannah taking the silver in the Pro over 40 category.

Well done to everyone, we’re very proud of you all.

Welcome to our new welfare officers

We would like to welcome Ailsa and Trina as our new welfare officers at the club.

Ailsa is mum to gymnast Gwennan who in trains the Competitive Squad. She has been training at Buckley for 6 years since she started at the Preschool class.

Ailsa has been a civil servant for 20 years. Until recently, she was a leader with Girlguiding, running a Rainbow unit for 14 years.

“I wanted to take on the role of welfare officer to give time back to the club who have given so much time and opportunity to Gwennan,” she said.

“I would like to contribute to ensuring that the club continues to be a happy and safe environment for all our gymnasts to train.”

Trina is mum to Quincy who has been with the club for 18 months and trains in the General 1 Boys class.

Trina says: “Quincy began gymnastics at 5 and loved throwing himself on a mat every Saturday.

“I asked to be considered as a welfare officer when the opportunity arose to give back to the club but also as it’s just an add on to the work I have been doing since 2005 as a solicitor working within child protection for local authorities in England and Wales. I am a former NSPCC counsellor”.

Welcome and thank you to our new welfare officers.

They are a great asset to the club and can be contacted if gymnasts, parents or coaches need them.

Welfare officer contact information can be found here on our website

Their information is also displayed in the gym.

Competing for Wales

Last Saturday saw Aiyla compete for Wales at the National Grade 1 final in Stoke-on-Trent.

The Welsh team placed 5th overall against other regions from across the UK.

Aiyla qualified as part of the Welsh team from her results at the Welsh National Grades in Cardiff at the start of April.  This involved competing on all 4 pieces of apparatus, as well as a set range & conditioning routine.

Coach Betty who attended the competition with Aiyla said ‘It was a pleasure to be on the floor at the National 1 final with Aiyla.  It was great to see her hard work pay off, for her to compete successful routines and be proud to represent Team Wales!’

A special mention to head coach Danielle for all her work helping to coach Aiyla.

What a great achievement and experience for Aiyla and a proud moment for Buckley Gymnastics Club!
