New club captains

This year we have two new club captains.

Reuben and Mia have been given this award as they make great role models in the club.

Reuben is a member of the Competitive boys class. His coaches say he is dedicated and has great attendence in class, he has a great attitude and brings fun into the gym, he gets on well with all boys.

Reuben shows respect to coaches and is always polite and very approachable, a pleasure to coach.

He now helps out in classes on Saturday mornings at Buckley Leisure Centre where he fits in really well with the coaching team and is a great asset.

Reuben says “being awarded club captain is a big honour this is because it is amazing to be recognised for all of my efforts as a gymnast and helping to coach on a Saturday”

Well done Reuben

Mia is a member of the Comp Squad class and has been with the club for a long time.

She is extremely motivated, never gives up, even when it gets hard, and comes in with a positive attitude every session making her an obvious choice for club captain.

Following lockdown, she found herself to be the only one in her group her age training regularly.  Despite this, she has continued training with the same attitude.

Her coach says “As you’d want from any club captain, Mia is an excellent role model and because of her attitude and commitment she is both training and competing at a high level”

Mia says “I am so grateful for becoming the new club captain. Without the coaches I have had through the years of me being a gymnast I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am forever thankful for the opportunities that have been awarded to me and I am excited for what’s to come. I hope I can be a good role model and someone the gymnasts can look up to. I also want to make sure the gymnasts can trust me and know I will always be there for them if they need my help”.

Well done Mia

Really well done to them both, they will keep the club captain shield for the next year.

Success for Seren

Last weekend Seren competed for Wales at the National Voluntary Level 3 final in Guildford.

The Welsh team took the silver overall against other regions from across the UK. An amazing achievement for team Wales.

Level 3 is part of the British Gymnastics elite programme.

Before competing at Voluntary Level 3, Seren passed Compulsory Level 3 earlier this year. This involved performing set routines on all 4 pieces, as well as range & conditioning.

For Voluntary Level 3, gymnasts must perform certain types of skill, but have more choice about what they can perform than grades earlier in the year.

Seren qualified for the Welsh team after competing in the Welsh Championships in Cardiff in October.

Well done Seren, we’re very proud of you!

Club Champs 2022

What a great weekend we had at Club Champs.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the weekend, it’s been great to see so many families in the gym.

Pre Comp class and Comp Squad class competed in the afternoon performing some great skills.

Sunday morning round 1 competition was for all the boys, General 1 and 2 class, plus the Boys Comp Squad. Great results for all the boys.

In Round 2, General 1, 2 and 4 girls competed, General classes train for 1-1.5 hours each week and did a great job in their competition.

The final competition of the day was for our Comp Rec girls 9+ years

Well done to all our gymnasts, they were brilliant.

There’s lots of people to thank for making this weekend happen.

We would like to thank the team behind the scenes who organised everything that makes club champs a great weekend, from organising the raffle, to sorting hot dog rolls and serving on the refreshment stall.

Thank you to all of our coaches, sport leaders and class helpers who helped prepare the gymnasts for this weekend, who also gave up their weekend to support them.

Huge shout out to head coach Danielle for her hard work planning this weekend, sorting all the gymnasts, timings and tickets and also judging all weekend.

Special mention to Grace and Maddie for their help selling raffle tickets and helping on the refreshments- they did a great job.

Brilliant compering from Shelley and Lynsey.

Thank you for all the donations of cakes, cookies and goodies for the raffle.

The last thank you is to all the parents, guardians and grandparents who bring the gymnasts to training each week.

We see some great friendships and bonds are built through gymnastics and that’s clear to see at Club Champs. It’s an amazing sport!

We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend.
