A big well done to all of our gymnasts who competed in the Welsh Gymnastics North Area Preliminary Championships at Llandrillo College on Sunday 2 April.
We had lots of girls competing from Buckley. They were among over 370 gymnasts from nine different clubs taking part in the competition. Here’s the results:
Phase 1 age 6/7: Amber Hodges came 1st on vault, Isla McManus was 2nd on vault with Lily Mckenzie and Olivia Buckley coming joint 6th on vault and tumble. The team received 3rd place overall.
Phase 2 6/7: Aiyla Griffiths earned 2nd on her tumble, 6th on vault and 2nd place overall. The Phase 2 team were also 2nd overall.
Aged 8 competition: Ava Roberts came 2nd on vault and was 2nd overall, Manon Bennion came 3rd in tumble. The whole team received 2nd place overall.
9/10 competition: Lizzy Waite was 3rd on floor, 6th on vault and came third overall.
13+ competition: Jess Owens received a 2nd place in her vault and 2nd overall with Katie McKessy Schofield coming 4th on tumble.
A big thank you to coach Helen for organising and supporting the girls on the day; to coaches Ceri, Sally and Emily for judging; and also to our young leaders, Bella and Elise, who supported the girls.
Well done Jessica Owens from the Youth class who has been nominated as March’s gymnast of the month for setting an example to others in both focus and commitment.
Lydia Kingsley-Williams was nominated in the Advanced class with coaches praising her hard work and attitude.
Sasha Johnson was singled out by the coaches in the Intermediate class for her gym work.
Eva McKenzie and Amber Hodges were nominated from the Development class.
Coaches were impressed with how much Eva’s confidence has grown over the last few months. And Amber has impressed her coaches with the improvement in her skills.
Thanks to everyone who supported our sponsored tumble today. There was lots of fabulous tumbling – and here’s the proof.
