Gymeisteddfod

Ten gymnasts from the Youth Class travelled to Cardiff to take part in Gymeisteddfod 2017, hosted by Welsh Gymnastics, on Saturday.

This event encompassed the ethos of its Gymnastics for All and gives participants the opportunity to display their skills as a team in a fun, friendly and non-competitive environment, writes coach Helen, who accompanied the girls.

The Youth Class had already taken part in a similar team event earlier this year at Manchester’s Gymfusion and, as it was a great success, they decided to travel to Cardiff with a new routine.

Their ‘Grease is the word’ routine was a classic medley of songs from the Grease film choreographed with gymnastics, dance and some acting.

Their routine had it all: Pink ladies, T-birds, hand jives, backward somersaults, big lifts and some great dance moves.

The girls, aged from 11-18, choreographed and arranged the routine themselves with some help from their coaches.

Their performance was fantastic. They showed what true professionals they are with great tumbles, lovely dancing and a wow factor performance.

They had the crowd clapping along with them and they even had people stopping them in the car park afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed it.

The girls are already thinking about the next event they can take part in.

Well done to all involved. It was a great day out and our Youth Class can be very proud of themselves.
