Pancake race day winners

Four of the gym club girls got together in Mold for the annual Pancake Day race on Tuesday – and won!

They even beat the fastest adults’ time in the relay four times across Daniel Owen Square while tossing a pancake in a frying pan.

The mayor congratulated our race winners who get to collect their prize from the sweet stall in the market next week.

Well done, Amber, Elise, Amelia and Bella.

Grades: Didn’t they all do well?

Update and photo: Girls make the national grade

A dozen gymnasts represented Buckley Girls Gymnastics Club in the North Area Grades Competition in Wrexham on Sunday against gymnasts from the other clubs across North Wales, writes coach Ceri Sass.

Although it was a long day, the girls did exceptionally well with all the girls passing their grade!

The girls were required to compete compulsory skills on the four apparatus – Vault, Bar, Beam and Floor – and also a Range and Conditioning set that tests their strength and flexibility.

The youngest gymnasts were the first to compete.  Lillie Dodd, Neve LaFlamme, and Lucy Williams competed in the Grade 14 competition which is for gymnasts turning eight this year.

In the Grade 13 competition for gymnasts turning nine this year, Abi Hogg, Isabella Roberts and Holly Williams represented the club.

For some of these gymnasts it was their first experience of a major competition and they did fantastically well.

Both of these Grades are a qualification round for the Grade 14 & 13 Finals which take place in Swansea in March.

Lillie Dodd and Abi Hogg gained distinction in their grade earning them a place on the team to represent the area along with  Isabella Roberts who also passed.

Lillie finished 2nd overall in Grade 14 with Isabella 3rd and Abi the overall champion in the Grade 13 competition!

The afternoon session saw the rest of the Buckley Gymnasts – Lily O’Neill, Elin Hawke, Elise LaFlamme, Hollie Pike (11), Cerys Barton (10) and Amelia Bourne (9) – compete in the Grade 11 competition.

The girls put in some great performances to comfortably pass their grade with Elin Hawke gaining a distinction and overall 2nd place!

All the coaches are very proud of the hard work and performances that the girls have put in.

They exceeded our expectations in the competition.

We are looking forward to getting back in the gym and having some fun learning some new skills ready for our next competition.

Well done girls.

Old photos

Take a look at the Leader newspaper’s Local Bygones website to see old photos of our club going back to the 1970s with former gymnasts as well as Stan.

Use the website’s ‘search’ to find more of them.

We’re going to try to dig out some of our own old photos and put them on our website as we head towards the club’s 40th anniversary.
