Ten of our Advanced girls travelled to Derry, Northern Ireland, to take part in a training camp held at Twisters Gymnastics club, writes coach Tara.
Abi, Bella, Lydia, Megan, Zara, Ellie, Macey, Ava, Olivia and Rosie flew out to Ireland on Thursday 24 May to stay with host families. This was the first gymnastics trip for some of our Advanced gymnasts. They were accompanied by myself and Shelley.
The girls trained in the day with high level coaches such as national coach Walter Consonni.
The girls enjoyed gaining new skills and made full use of Twisters’ bars and tumble pits. Also, during the girls’ stay with host families, they were treated to days out at a park and farm as well as BBQs and bowling.
The maiden City Cup competition was held on Sunday 27 May and the girls performed fantastically, gaining many medals for individual apparatus and overall positions were also achieved.
They flew home on Tuesday excited to show off their medals and share their experiences with club mates. Myself and Shelley were immensely proud of the girls’ team spirit and maturity throughout the whole trip.
A big thank you to Twisters, host families and coaches for giving the girls an experience they will never forget.
We are also very thankful to Mr and Mrs Buckley for arranging this safe, fun and memorable trip every year with our great friends at Twisters.
